I came from an environment where the less money you spent, the better.

I came from an environment where the less money you spent, the better.
The idea was to spend as little as possible.

As you can imagine, something like Starbucks was not the vibe.

“Why would you spend $5 on a coffee! You can make coffee at home?”

Starbucks was perceived as the way you through your financial life into the gutter.
.
Despite this, I have always kind of liked spending money.
.
And was always veery aware of the experience the money I spent provided for me.
.
Like a lot of people, I began working at 16.
.
Over those first several years of having my “own money” I began to notice some things.
.
I noticed that sometimes the least expensive clothing items fell apart the most easily. (And that I actually seemed to ‘save’ money by purchasing higher quality things that lasted longer.)
.
And that going to buy a $4 latte while sitting in a coffee shop in a part of town that felt beautiful for me… was an entire energy-shifting experience.
.
I was learning what money meant to me.
.
And what positive experiences it can provide for me, when I used well.
.
I remember sitting in the sunshine, holding that cup, drinking that drink while actively choosing, imagining and feeling into the kind of woman I would become.
.
I was putting me in charge of my money… and in charge of my life.
.
I was becoming who spends in ways that feel good to me based on the experience and the energy I was creating through my spending.
.
In this way, a four dollar drink became a luxury experience.
