A few weeks ago, I was teaching a new module inside my Best Year Ever course. Someone asked me this:
.
“I was taught in church that we are unworthy. How do you reconcile this?”
.
And, as you can imagine…
.
I had some things to say.
.
I’m not sure if you know this about me, but I have two (count ’em two) bible school degrees. (One was a ministry training school and one was the university I have my bachelors degree from.) Before I went back to school to receive my master’s degree and become a therapist — I worked in the church.
.
For years and years, I volunteered in churches, was an intern in churches, worked in churches and I was raised in a very interesting place called… the bible belt.
.
So, when someone presents me with what their pastor said, I can usually follow the line of thinking. I know the doctrine and dogma behind it. I can predict what verses they are going to use to back themselves up.
.
And I know when what they are saying is fully taken out of context, misinterpreted… bullsh*t.
.
Yes, I am very available — and not afraid — to call bullsh*t on a lot of what is taught in churches.
.
I am not afraid of pissing of your pastor.
.
And I know, for sure, that God can handle my freedom-based boldness.
.
I was entrapped and entrenched in religious dogma for years. It controlled my life. Today, if you haven’t noticed, I am free. And my job is to help people find their freedom in the areas where they accidentally became trapped. So, let’s go…
.
GOD IS BIGGER THAN THE CHURCH.
.
He is bigger than any religion or religious building. He is bigger than man’s interpretation of him. He is bigger than the person on the stage telling you how to think of him.
.
I don’t have a problem with the church — I have a problem the leaders of church’s speaking to us in such a way that we don’t get to know God for ourselves. Or think for ourselves. Or trust ourselves.
.
Our own, growing, evolving relationship with God — or whatever you want to call him/her/it — is a relationship of *our own* understanding and must begin to outweigh the dogma and f*ed up doctrine that holds so many people back.
.
The church is not God. God is not a man on a stage.
.
God is… God.
.

Now, back to question I was asked, because it makes my blood boil.
.
If God created me, if he made me in his image, if he literally lives inside me, if he is here to guide me and help me as I help others…
.
How the f* do we figure that we are somehow unworthy?!
.
How is questioning my worth, my goodness, my greatness, and the very God inside of me going to help me do f*ing anything with my life?!
.
People get so caught in weeds — in the do’s and don’ts of it all.
.
They feel sinful or unworthy and undeserving.
.
Then they feel wrong if they f*ing believe in themselves and use their God-given gifts and desire to do something meaningful with their life…
.
Like… what?
.
You think God is most satisfied with you if you walk around feeling not good enough?
.
How the hell is that going to change the world?
.
I believe this: God gave me my desires. And this life. It’s my job to use what he gave me to live well, live big, co-create my life using the power he gave me (ie manifestation) and make a meaningful difference.
.
And I can’t do that sh*t if I am worried that I am somehow… unworthy.
.
My opinion: God doesn’t care what you call him. He doesn’t care if you go to a building weekly to learn about him.
.
God — or whatever you believe in — didn’t give us life to have us question and doubt ourselves through it while relying on a flawed man on a stage to tell us how to live and think.
.
So, my love, I would encourage you to watch today’s video and read the words of this email and remember, you’ve been set free. And you are free, indeed.
